13-6-2024/ Fulbright Scholarships Award Ceremony at the residence of the US Ambassador in Greece

In Athens on 13/06/2024 during a ceremony held at the residence of the US Ambassador in Greece, His Excellence Mr. George Tsunis, in the presence of the US Ambassador in Greece George J. Tsunis, the Greek Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sport Kyriakos Pierrakakis, the President of the State Scholarships Foundation Mr. Michael Koutsilieris and Fulbright Executive Director, Artemis A. Zenetou the Fulbright Scholarships for academic year 2024-2025 were awarded to 73 young grantees.

During his speech, Mr. Tsunis underlined the importance of education and intercultural understanding. The Greek Minister of Education Mr. Kyriakos Pierrakakis pointed out the valuable contribution of the Fulbright programme in reinforcing the relationship between Greece and the Unites States, while Ms. Zenetou specified the importance of scholarships in strengthening the bonds between the two countries.

It is worth pointing out that the educational and cultural exchanges between Greece and the Unites States through the Fulbright Foundation started in 1948, while since academic year 2022-2023, the State Scholarships Foundation (IKY), the exclusive sponsor of the Programme, is cooperating with Fulbright Foundation in Greece for the implementation of two cycles of scholarships for the mobility of 5 Greek Ph.D. candidates for research in the United States and the mobility of 4 American Ph.D. candidates for research in Greek Higher Education Institutions. The original duration of the programme is five (5) years and the programme has an overall budget of € 827,000.
