IKY supports PhD students and offers scholarships in order for them to elaborate a doctoral thesis in Greece and / or abroad.

From 2016 to date, IKY implements circles of scholarship programmes in three (3) scientific sectors (Natural Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Social and Humanitarian Sciences) in order for PhD students to elaborate a doctoral thesis in Greece. These Programmes aim at the support of new scientists and at the production of high research results. The project is co-financed by Greece and the European Union (European Social Fund- ESF) through the Operational Programme «Human Resources Development, Education and Lifelong Learning 2014- 2020».

In addition, scholarships are granted for the European University Institute of Florence (Istituto Universitario Europeo – Firenze) to Greek graduates of Greek and equivalent foreign universities to conduct a doctoral research with a European perspective in their basic or comparative research. The fields selected should be within humanitarian and social disciplines such as History and Culture, Economy, Legal, Social and Political Sciences.

Moreover, IKY provides fellowships through the endowments that it manages. Scholarships are granted in accordance with the deed of incorporation of each bequest and the applicable bequest legislation.

In the past, IKY financed scholarship holders within the context of its collaboration with CERN. It was a scholarship programme offered by IKY for the employment at CERN of scientists having graduated from Greek universities in the field of Theoretical and Experimental Particle Physics.
