On Wednesday 2 October 2024, the representatives of State Scholarships Foundation attended the welcome reception for Greek and American grantees of Fulbright Greece, held at the Cotsen Hall Garden – Gennadius Library. In a convivial welcome reception, grantees were welcomed by the Greek Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sport Mr. Kyriakos Pierrakakis and by the U.S. Ambassador to Greece His Excellency George J. Tsunis, who honored Fulbright Greece with their presence, underlining the bonds between Greece and the USA and the importance of education for a peaceful coexistence of nations.
In the framework of the reception, the new President of IKY, Professor Vassiliki Kindi and IKY executives had the chance to speak with the two American Ph.D. candidates to conduct a six-month research at the University of Athens through the Programme “Scholarships of the State Scholarships Foundation (IKY) in partnership with Fulbright Greece”, which is exclusively funded by the State Scholarships Foundation. The subject scholarship programme, which also supports Greek Ph.D. candidates enrolled in Greek Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) for research in U.S. universities/research centres is one of the most recent initiatives of IKY aimed to ensure mutual exchange of knowledge and to strengthen the academic bonds between the two countries.
Two more American Ph.D. candidates have been selected for academic year 2024-2025 and are expected in Greece in December. At the same time, in the framework of the Call for Applications for academic year 2024-2025 for mobility scholarships to Greek Ph.D. candidates enrolled in Greek HEIs, five (5) Greek citizens will travel to the United States, while another five Ph.D. candidates completed their mobility to the United States in academic year 2023-2024.
