ANNOUNCEMENT

2024 EUROPEAN INNOVATIVE TEACHING AWARD (ΕΙΤΑ)

The State Scholarships Foundation (IKY), the Erasmus+ National Agency, hereby announces a Call for Applications for the 2024 European Innovative Teaching Award. The EITA has been launched aiming to showcase outstanding teaching practices implemented in the framework of Erasmus+ and to recognise the work of teachers and schools. The award helps demonstrate the value of cooperation in schools across Europe and contributes to the establishment of the European Education Area.

In the 2021-2027 Programme Period, the prize is awarded annually to projects in the fields of school education and/or Vocational Education and Training.

Moreover, up to four awards are given to projects in the following four distinct categories:

  • Early childhood education and care
  • Primary education
  • Secondary education
  • Vocational education and training schools [1]

The objectives of the European Innovative Teaching Award are to:

  • celebrate the achievements of teachers and schools and to give credit to their work
  • identify and promote outstanding teaching and learning practices
  • foster mutual learning between school teaching and non-teaching staff
  • highlight the value and the contribution of the Erasmus+ programme for collaboration between teachers at the European level.

The award is given to successfully completed Erasmus+ projects, namely to projects which have become best practice examples and whose theme is aligned with the annual thematic priorities of the European Commission. Given that the Erasmus+ projects are by default funded projects, the award is symbolic and brings no additional financial benefits to laureates. Nevertheless, projects having received the EITA award, are promoted at a European and national level as good practice examples of innovation in Education.

In 2024, the annual thematic priority of the European Innovative Teaching Award is “Well–being at school”, a theme which is fully aligned with the initiative “Pathways to School Success”.

Evaluation procedure

No action on the part of the interested parties is required in the framework of the assessment procedure.

In view of proceeding with the evaluation and the award of the 2024 EITA, the State Scholarships Foundation (IKY)/ Erasmus+ National Agency shall initially select Erasmus+ coordination projects from Greece having started and having been completed between 2019 and 2023 which meet the required characteristics set by the European Commission for participation in the evaluation procedure (short –listing of potential awardees).

Nominated schools per category shall be then evaluated by independent committees of experts appointed by the Administrative Board of IKY. The Evaluation and Selection Committees shall apply the evaluation criteria and scoring set by the European Commission, in cooperation with the European National Agencies.

Please note that schools having previously received the European Innovative Teaching Award are not eligible.

The 2024 EITA evaluation criteria are presented in detail here.

Nominated schools for 2024 in all four categories will be published on the website of IKY.
