IKY supports research and offers various opportunities which enhance it through postdoc scholarships or research scholarships.
From 2016 to date, IKY implements circles of scholarship programmes in 3 scientific fields (Natural Sciences and Engineering Sciences, Life Sciences, Social and Humanitarian Sciences) aimed at the economic support to postdoctoral researchers for the implementation of a postdoctoral research in Universities and Research Centers in Greece. The project is co-financed by Greece and the European Union (European Social Fund- ESF) through the Operational Programme «Human Resources Development, Education and Lifelong Learning 2014- 2020».
Another interesting research scholarships programme is IKYDA. Since 2000, IKY and the German Society for Academic Exchanges (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst – DAAD) have been running the IKYDA programme based on a bilateral agreement to further promote the scientific cooperation of the Tertiary Education Institutes, as well as the research institutes, in Greece and Germany. The programme is intended for teams of scientists or researchers in all cognitive fields, who are called to prepare a joint research project with their German partners via an exchange of mutual visitations.
Moreover, IKY provides fellowships through the endowments that it manages. Scholarships are granted in accordance with the deed of incorporation of each bequest and the applicable bequest legislation.
From 2013 to 2017, IKY offered fellowships for conducting post-doctoral research in Greece through the “IKY Fellowships of Excellence for Postgraduate Studies in Greece – Siemens Programme” in the framework of the Hellenic Republic – Siemens Settlement Agreement. The Programme covers 350 fellowships allocated in 4 leading-edge thematic areas: Industry, Health, Energy and Infrastructure – Urban Development – Environment.
In the past, IKY financed scholarship holders within the context of its collaboration with CERN. Post-doctoral students were given the opportunity to participate in retraining programmes in physical and theoretical sciences in Geneva.
Finally, “Integrated Management of Sea and Inland Waters” was a programme managed by IKY with EEA funding, for conducting post-doctoral research in Universities of Norway, Iceland or Lichtenstein in the acad. period 2014/15.
